Eek-A-Mouse - Skidip!
Eek-A-Mouse, born Ripton Hylton, is one of the most eccentric and instantly recognizable artists in Jamaican music history. His unique vocal style, known as singjaying, combines singing with the rhythmic speaking style of toasting. The album Skidip! is one of his defining works and a classic of the early dancehall era. Produced by Henry "Junjo" Lawes and backed by the tight rhythms of the Roots Radics band, the record is packed with infectious tracks. The lyrics are often humorous and narrative, as can be heard in songs like "Modelling Queen" and the title track.
The music on this album is an essential work within Reggae and early Dancehall. The sound is characterized by Eek-A-Mouse's innovative vocal style, combined with the Roots Radics' distinctive, heavy riddims.
